The government has announced plans to undertake a comprehensive assessment of Ghana’s disaster resilience and emergency preparedness systems as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s ability to respond to emergencies.
The announcement was made by Mr Brogya Genfi at a High-Level Symposium organised by the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to mark the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction in Accra.
Mr Genfi reiterated the government’s commitment to building a resilient and emergency-ready Ghana, emphasising the importance of strengthening the country’s preparedness architecture.
He said, in line with a directive from President John Dramani Mahama, the Office of the Presidential Advisor, NAREP, would lead the comprehensive assessment.
The exercise is expected to culminate in a strategic and actionable implementation plan to guide efforts to improve national resilience and emergency preparedness.
Mr Genfi expressed appreciation to the Deputy Minister of the Interior, Terlabi Okletey, the Resident Head of the United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot (UNHRD), and the leadership and staff of NADMO for organising the symposium.
He commended them for their continued commitment to building a safer and more resilient Ghana.
The symposium provided a platform to highlight the importance of disaster risk reduction and strengthen discussions on measures to improve the country’s readiness to manage emergencies.
The planned assessment is expected to inform efforts to strengthen Ghana’s disaster preparedness systems and support the development of a coordinated approach to emergency response.
