The Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) recorded GH¢7.82 billion in mineral royalty receipts between January and September 2026, more than doubling the GH¢3.79 billion generated during the same period last year.

The 106% increase was attributed to higher gold prices, the implementation of the sliding-scale royalty mechanism, sustained production levels and improved monitoring of mining activities.

With the strong performance, MIIF is targeting approximately GH¢9 billion in mineral royalty receipts by the end of 2026.

Large-scale gold mining accounted for the bulk of the revenue, generating about GH¢7.66 billion in the first nine months of 2026, compared with GH¢3.54 billion in the corresponding period of 2025.

This represents an increase of approximately 116%, underscoring gold mining’s dominant contribution to the Fund’s royalty income.

Royalties from mid-tier gold mining also nearly doubled, rising from GH¢55.31 million to GH¢110.34 million over the period, an increase of about 99%.

Among other minerals, quarry royalties increased from GH¢10.8 million to GH¢11.35 million, while sand royalties rose by 41%, from GH¢390,274 to GH¢550,871.

Limestone royalties, however, fell from GH¢7.08 million to GH¢4.84 million, largely due to reduced production during the second quarter, when heavy rainfall disrupted mining operations.

The latest figures extend MIIF’s strong first-half performance.

The Fund recorded more than GH¢5.3 billion in mineral royalty receipts between January and June 2026, compared with approximately GH¢2.64 billion during the same period in 2025.

Commenting on the results, MIIF Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Justina Nelson, reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to responsible financial management and ensuring that mineral revenues deliver lasting benefits to Ghana.

She said the Fund’s mandate goes beyond collecting royalties to include strategic investments across the mining value chain through equities, fixed-income securities and alternative investments to generate sustainable returns for the country.

MIIF operates under the Minerals Income Investment Fund Act, 2018 (Act 978), as amended, with a mandate to maximise the value of mineral royalties and dividends accruing to the Republic.

The Fund says it will continue working to optimise Ghana’s mineral wealth and ensure that proceeds from the sector support sustainable national development for present and future generations.
