Dr Hannah Louisa Bissiw-Kotey, the National Women’s Organiser of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), has announced that she will not seek re-election when the party holds its next internal elections.
She made the announcement during her thank-you tour of the Ahafo, Bono and Bono East regions over the weekend, where she met regional and constituency women organisers to express appreciation for their support throughout her eight-year tenure.
Dr Bissiw-Kotey said her decision marked the end of a chapter in her political service but stressed that it would not diminish her commitment to the NDC Women’s Wing and its continued development.
She expressed gratitude to the women organisers for their loyalty, sacrifices and dedication, which she said had contributed to efforts to strengthen and empower the wing over the past eight years.
“Our journey has been one of sacrifice, resilience, teamwork, and a shared determination to build a stronger and more vibrant wing,” she said.
The National Women’s Organiser noted that leadership was not solely about holding a position but also involved serving with purpose, developing people, strengthening institutions and creating opportunities for others to lead.
Reflecting on her tenure, she said she was proud of the achievements recorded through collective efforts and valued the relationships built with regional and constituency organisers across the country.
Dr Bissiw-Kotey also wished all aspirants well ahead of the upcoming constituency and regional elections, urging that the process be peaceful, transparent and guided by the collective interest of the party’s Women’s Wing.
Although she will not contest for another term, she reaffirmed her commitment to the progress of the wing, emphasising that the shared vision and solidarity built during her tenure would continue beyond her time in office.
Her announcement sets the stage for a leadership transition within the NDC Women’s Wing as the party prepares for its upcoming internal elections.
