Okai Mintah pledges action on NDC youth concerns, announces correspondence desk

Emmanuel Okai Mintah, an aspirant for the National Youth Organizer position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to prioritise the concerns of young party members, announcing plans to establish a Correspondence Desk to receive complaints and help address their needs.

The proposed desk is expected to be launched at the NDC National Youth Wing on December 13, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen communication between the party’s youth leadership and its grassroots membership.

Speaking on TV XYZ, Okai Mintah said his decision to contest the position was driven by the need to translate the contributions of young people to the party’s electoral success into tangible action.

“My goal is to ensure action in the NDC. The youth have brought the power, so we need action,” he said.

He argued that young people played a significant role in securing the NDC’s victory in the 2024 general elections and deserved greater attention as the party prepares for the 2028 polls.

Drawing on his experience in the party’s youth structures, he said he understood the concerns of grassroots members and the need for leadership that responds to their needs.

“I started my political journey at the youth level, and I know much about the grassroots youth in the NDC,” he said.

Okai Mintah said the proposed Correspondence Desk would provide a channel for young party members to communicate their concerns and seek assistance from the National Youth Wing.

He observed that some young people struggled to identify where to direct their concerns within the party, making it necessary to establish a dedicated platform to improve communication and accountability.

“When I become National Youth Organizer, genuine concerns will never be left unattended to,” he stated.

Explaining the rationale behind the initiative, he said, “When I made my declaration, I promised to establish a Correspondence Desk. Many young people have issues but do not know where to voice their concerns. On December 13, 2026, there will be a Correspondence Desk at the National Youth Wing.”

The proposed initiative is expected to provide a more direct channel for communication between the youth leadership and party members, although details of how it will receive and process complaints are yet to be outlined.

The announcement comes as the NDC prepares its structures for the 2028 general elections.

Okai Mintah highlighted his involvement in the NDC’s campaign activities ahead of the 2024 elections, arguing that his experience in mobilisation and resource mobilisation would help the party sustain its electoral support.

He credited the party’s youth structures with contributing significantly to its victory in the 2024 general elections.

“The Youth Committee spearheaded the victory in the 2024 election,” he said.

Okai Mintah further claimed that he personally distributed 233 projectors to constituencies during the campaign and contributed to efforts to provide motorbikes to constituencies.

“Just in the 2024 election, I distributed 233 projectors to 233 constituencies on my own. We also distributed motorbikes to constituencies, and I raised two-fourths of the funding for that,” he said.

He also cited his experience as Eastern Regional Youth Organizer, during which he said he established youth farms in the region on a pilot basis.

According to him, these initiatives demonstrate his experience in organising resources and implementing programmes to support the party’s grassroots structures.

Looking ahead to the next general elections, the aspirant pledged to work towards retaining the parliamentary seats he said the NDC secured for first-time MPs in 2024.

“I will ensure that we retain all 70 seats won by first-time MPs in the 2024 elections,” he said.

Okai Mintah said the NDC must build on its 2024 electoral success by adopting strategies that respond to changing political realities and give young people a meaningful role in shaping the party’s future.

Highlighting the importance of ideas in modern political competition, he argued that electoral mobilisation should focus on practical initiatives and innovative approaches rather than physical strength.

“In modern Ghana, we do not rely on strength to win elections; we rely on ideas,” he said.

He also highlighted the NDC National Youth Wing’s contribution to the party’s policy agenda, saying the youth manifesto included proposals such as the 24-hour economy and the No Fee Stress policy.

He said the youth leadership must continue to combine political mobilisation with initiatives that address the interests and expectations of young party members.

According to him, preparations for the 2028 elections have already begun, and the party must strengthen the structures and strategies that contributed to its previous victory.

“Whatever we did to secure victory in 2024, we will do even more to secure victory in 2028,” he said.

Explaining his decision to contest the National Youth Organizer position, Okai Mintah said his experience within the party’s youth structures had prepared him for the responsibility of leading the wing into the 2028 elections.

He disclosed that he had consulted the current National Youth Organizer, George Opare Addo, and his deputies, who, he said, had given him their blessing to contest the position.

He also recalled President John Dramani Mahama’s commissioning of the NDC’s National Youth Secretariat in 2023, saying the President had expressed confidence in his committee’s ability to help return the party to power.

“President Mahama, while in opposition, commissioned a National Youth Secretariat in 2023. He said he knew Okai Mintah and his committee would bring the party back into power, and we did. We are still working towards victory in 2028,” he said.

Okai Mintah chairs the NDC’s National Youth Working Committee, which was inaugurated in October 2023 to support the operations of the party’s Youth Wing and strengthen youth mobilisation ahead of the 2024 general elections.

His campaign for National Youth Organizer is focused on building on that experience, improving communication with young party members and strengthening the structures needed to sustain the NDC’s electoral support.

As the party looks towards 2028, he says his priority will be to ensure that the contributions of young people are matched by responsive leadership, practical initiatives and action on their concerns.
