The University of Ghana has postponed the reopening date for the 2026/2027 academic year following the strike by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).
The University was initially scheduled to reopen on Monday, October 12, 2026, but Management has deferred the date and says a new reopening date will be announced in due course.
In a notice to students d the University said, “The Management of the University of Ghana wishes to inform all students that the reopening of the University for the 2026/2027 academic year, initially scheduled for Monday, October 12, 2026, has been postponed. A revised date for the reopening of the University will be announced in due course.”
The notice was signed by Professor Gordon A. Awandare, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs.
Management apologised for any inconvenience the postponement might cause and appealed to students to remain patient while arrangements were made for the reopening.
“Management sincerely regrets any inconvenience this postponement may cause and appreciates the patience and understanding of students as arrangements are made for the reopening,” the statement added.
In the meantime, students have been advised to complete their academic registration online using the procedure outlined in an earlier communication from the University.
According to the notice, completing the registration process will help students secure their places for classes and establish their eligibility to participate in the upcoming random bed allocation exercise.
The University has not announced a new reopening date, urging students to await further communication on the revised arrangements.
