The Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, has assured members of the Ghana National Petroleum Tankers Drivers Union (GNPTDU) of his commitment to addressing concerns over their working conditions and welfare.
Mr Tameklo gave the assurance during an emergency meeting with the leadership and members of the GNPTDU following a series of strike actions by the union.
The strike actions, which have since been suspended, were linked to concerns over the poor condition of the Tema Oil Refinery-Kpone Road and the deteriorating state of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation (BOST) yard where tanker drivers park their vehicles.
Other concerns raised by the union included oil loss control and calls for allowances for drivers who undertake long journeys on rough and difficult roads.
Mr Tameklo said the NPA would work to properly investigate the concerns raised by the drivers and find practical solutions to the challenges affecting their operations.
He assured the union that the Authority would do its best to get to the bottom of the issues and work with relevant stakeholders to address them.
The National Chairman of the GNPTDU, George Nyaunu, on behalf of the union, apologised to the NPA for failing to notify the Authority before embarking on the strike action.
He also thanked Mr Tameklo for accepting the union’s request for an emergency meeting and for listening to the concerns of the drivers.
