Police investigations into the robbery and killing of a 30-year-old mobile money vendor at Gomoa Dominase in the Central Region have led to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of the deceased’s iPhone 13 Pro.
The robbery occurred on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at a mobile money vending point at Gomoa Dominase, resulting in the death of the vendor.
According to the Central East Regional Police Command, a breakthrough came after the stolen iPhone was activated, allowing investigators to trace it through police intelligence.
The first suspect, identified as Isaac Baffoe, alias Kwame Cheddo, was arrested at Kwesimintsim in Takoradi, Western Region, on June 26, 2026.
A search on Baffoe led to the recovery of the stolen iPhone 13 Pro, which police said had been concealed in an iPhone 17 safety case along with other mobile phone accessories.
During interrogation, Baffoe reportedly led police to a second suspect, Prince Tawiah Baidoo, a phone technician at Kwesimintsim.
Police said Baidoo confessed to replacing the iPhone’s motherboard, Face ID component and camera sensors at a cost of GH¢2,650.
A subsequent search of Baidoo’s residence led to the recovery of a box containing the original components removed from the deceased’s phone.
The Police Command said both suspects had since been put before the Ofaakor Circuit Court as investigations continue.
“The Central East Regional Police Command has made a significant progress into the investigations of the robbery attack,” the Command said.
The recovered iPhone and its original and refurbished components have been retained as exhibits as police intensify efforts to identify and arrest other members of the robbery gang and anyone connected to the handling of the phone.
The Command is also appealing to the public for credible information that could assist the investigation.
