The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted Inspector Hance Atubra of the Tarkwa Divisional Headquarters to the rank of Chief Inspector in recognition of his bravery during a fire outbreak at Aboso in the Western Region.
The incident occurred on August 26, 2026, when fire engulfed several shops at the Aboso Main Lorry Station, destroying property and putting lives at risk.
Inspector Atubra, who was the first police officer to arrive at the scene, immediately intervened to assist people trapped in the affected area.
He helped evacuate victims to safety while efforts were made to contain the situation and protect lives and property.
His actions were commended by eyewitnesses, who described his response as courageous and decisive.
Following the incident, a recommendation was made for his promotion in recognition of his quick response, bravery and commitment to saving lives.
The Police Administration said the promotion reflects its commitment to recognising and rewarding officers who demonstrate exceptional courage, professionalism and dedication in the line of duty.
Inspector Atubra’s actions during the Aboso fire have consequently been cited as an example of the importance of prompt intervention and selfless service in protecting members of the public.
