Aspiring National Youth Organiser of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Okai Mintah, has pledged to build a formidable youth mobilisation machinery to protect the party’s parliamentary seats and reclaim constituencies currently held by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to him, his focus will be on strengthening the party at the grassroots, supporting first-time Members of Parliament (MPs) and mobilising young people to help the NDC retain its existing seats while making inroads into traditional NDC strongholds currently under NPP control.
Speaking about his recent engagements with party activists, Mr Mintah said he had visited Bimbilla as part of efforts to assess the party’s grassroots strength and prepare for the next electoral contest.
He expressed confidence that the NDC would defeat the NPP’s incumbent MP, Dominic Nitiwul, in Bimbilla.
“Nitiwul will be defeated,” Mr Mintah said, signalling the NDC’s determination to reclaim the constituency.
He also disclosed that he had engaged young opinion leaders and branch youth organisers in Effutu to strategise towards securing victory for the NDC in the constituency.
Mr Mintah said the engagement was part of a broader strategy to activate the party’s youth base and strengthen its structures ahead of the next general elections.
Turning his attention to Effutu, he expressed confidence that the NDC was poised to wrestle the seat from the NPP, which is currently represented by former Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
“Afenyo’s stay has grown cold. Effutu is coming home,” he declared.
Mr Mintah said the NDC could not afford to wait until the election year before beginning its mobilisation efforts, stressing the need for sustained grassroots engagement and strategic planning.
“The work starts now,” he said.
He maintained that a well-organised youth wing would be critical to the NDC’s efforts to protect its seats, support newly elected MPs and reclaim constituencies lost to the NPP.
