The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) says the deployment of its Publican AI system has contributed to a significant increase in customs revenue, with monthly collections reaching a record GHS6.1 billion in July 2026.
GRA Commissioner-General, Dr Anthony Sarpong, disclosed that customs revenue averaged approximately GHS4 billion per month before the Publican AI system was fully implemented in April.
According to him, revenue collections subsequently increased to GHS5.5 billion in June before rising further to GHS.1 billion in July.
Dr Sarpong attributed the improvement partly to the use of technology and Artificial Intelligence to strengthen customs processes and enhance revenue mobilisation.
The Commissioner-General said the Authority is also preparing to introduce a new system aimed at improving compliance with Value Added Tax (VAT) obligations.
The GRA is further considering a reward scheme to encourage consumers to demand VAT receipts when making purchases, as part of efforts to improve compliance and reduce revenue leakages.
The latest figures form part of the Authority’s broader digitalisation efforts to modernise tax administration and strengthen domestic revenue mobilisation.
