The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) recorded approximately GH¢27.14 million in revenue from dealer plates between January and September 2026, following reforms aimed at closing revenue leakages at Ghana’s ports of entry.

Chief Executive Officer Julius Neequaye Kotey announced the figures at the Government Accountability Series at the Jubilee House on Monday, October 12, 2026, explaining that management replaced aluminium dealer plates with tamper-proof digital stickers after identifying weaknesses in the previous distribution system.

“As of April 2025, the total number of DP plates issued at the Ports averaged between 1,800 and 1,900,” he said. According to Mr Kotey, the number rose to more than 5,000 in the first month after the stickers were introduced, before exceeding 15,000 monthly by October 2025.

He said the reform ensured that every vehicle received the required sticker before leaving the port, helping the Authority capture revenue that might otherwise have been lost.

Figures presented by the CEO show that the DVLA issued 76,312 dealer plates in 2024, generating GH¢15.42 million. In 2025, issuance increased to 111,101, with revenue rising to GH¢22.44 million.

The 134,361 plates recorded in the first nine months of 2026 generated approximately GH¢27.14 million, already exceeding the revenue recorded in each of the two preceding full years.

Mr Kotey said the improvement formed part of wider measures to strengthen financial accountability and protect public revenue.

He also disclosed that the Authority had acquired vehicle diagnostic devices to identify suspected cloned or improperly cleared vehicles and had registered more than 7,700 excavators in collaboration with the Minerals Commission, further expanding its regulatory oversight.
