Police at Nkwatia in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern Region have arrested a 24-year-old welder’s apprentice for allegedly attempting to behead his younger brother in a disturbing incident reported in a nearby forest.
The suspect, identified only as Kwadwo, is currently in police custody assisting with investigations after allegedly attacking his sibling with a sharp object during the incident.
According to an eyewitness, Bright Osarfo, residents were alerted by distress calls coming from the forest.
Community members who rushed to the scene reportedly found the victim under attack and quickly intervened to rescue him.
The suspect was subsequently overpowered by residents and handed over to the police.
The Unit Committee Member for the area, Esther Kissiwaa, confirmed that tensions rose after the arrest, with an angry crowd attempting to assault the suspect before police intervened and rescued him from mob attack.
She added that during the commotion, two young men sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.
Medical officials at the Nkwatia Hospital later confirmed that the victim, the suspect, and the two injured individuals are all in stable condition and responding to treatment.
Police say investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
