As the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) prepares for its impending internal reorganization, leading party figures and prospective candidates are intensifying strategic consultations across the country in anticipation of the opening of nominations. The exercise, widely seen as critical to shaping the party’s future direction, has attracted experienced and accomplished individuals seeking to contribute to strengthening the party’s national leadership.
Reliable information available to The Overseer indicates that former NDC Parliamentary Candidate for the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Constituency, Hon. Stephen Donkor, has successfully concluded extensive consultations and secured the endorsement of key stakeholders to contest for the position of National Deputy General Secretary when nominations are officially opened.
Efforts by The Overseer to obtain direct confirmation from Mr. Donkor proved unsuccessful. However, highly placed sources close to him confirmed that his decision to contest is firm and well considered.
“Hon. Stephen Donkor has completed his consultations and received strong encouragement from party leaders and grassroots supporters across the country. His decision is grounded in a desire to strengthen party structures and contribute meaningfully to the NDC’s national leadership. At this point, only unforeseen circumstances could prevent him from contesting,” the source disclosed.
According to the source, Mr. Donkor brings considerable experience, discipline, and leadership qualities to the position, having served the party in various capacities, including as Parliamentary Candidate for Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai during the 2020 general elections.
“Stephen possesses the competence, integrity, and emotional intelligence required for the Deputy General Secretary role. The office demands maturity, measured communication, and strong organizational skills. The party needs leadership that projects dignity, professionalism, and unity, and Stephen represents those qualities,” the source added.
Party insiders also point to Mr. Donkor’s strong professional background and academic credentials as key strengths that position him favorably for the national role.
A Chartered Accountant and Data Analyst by profession, Stephen Donkor is widely regarded as a treasury and financial management expert with extensive international and corporate experience. He previously served as Treasury Head for Ecom Agroindustrial, formerly Amajaro Ghana Ltd, where he played a key role in financial operations and treasury management.
Mr. Donkor also gained international experience working with Müller UK & Ireland in the United Kingdom, as well as BrewDog PLC in Ellon, Aberdeenshire, where he further strengthened his expertise in financial systems, corporate governance, and operational efficiency.
His blend of political experience, corporate leadership, and international exposure, party observers say, positions him as a strong contender capable of supporting the party’s national administration and enhancing internal coordination as the NDC prepares for its next phase of political activity.
