Veteran journalist and media consultant, Charles Yao Mawusi, has declared his intention to contest for the presidency of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA).
With more than two decades of experience in journalism, development communication, and media consultancy, Mr. Mawusi is positioning himself as a candidate with the expertise and vision to lead the association into a new era.
Mr. Mawusi is the Executive Director of Trans-Media Network and has built a strong reputation as a communications strategist, media expert, and development communicator.
Over the years, he has worked with key donor agencies, government institutions, and civil society organizations, offering technical support, advisory services, and leadership on major national communication projects.
His recent work includes leading the development and implementation of a financial literacy campaign for the government under the Financial Sector Reforms Project, as well as heading the communications team for the World Bank-funded Ghana Economic Transformation Project.
He also played a critical role in crafting the Communication and Awareness Strategy for the Ghana National Anti-Corruption Action Plan (NACAP).
Beyond his consultancy work, Mr. Mawusi’s journalism career spans respected institutions such as the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Ghana News Agency, Peace FM, and the Ghanaian Times.
His professional journey reflects a deep commitment to strengthening the role of the media in Ghana’s democracy and development.
He has been instrumental in providing communication support for major donor-funded initiatives, including STAR Ghana, USAID, DFID, and the DANIDA-led Good Governance and Human Rights Programme.
Mr. Mawusi, through these engagements, has not only developed strategic communication frameworks but has also trained, mentored, and coached hundreds of journalists across the country.
Mr. Mawusi’s candidacy is anchored in his belief that the GJA must evolve to better support journalists through capacity building, stronger advocacy, and greater accountability.
He has previously worked closely with the GJA, supporting the development of its media and branding strategies and helping to implement programmes such as “The Business Advocate” on GTV.
His work with international organizations such as the World Bank, African Development Bank, IFC, and SNV Netherlands Development Organization has contributed significantly to public education, awareness creation, among others.
His campaign promises to focus on revitalizing the association, empowering members, and restoring public confidence in journalism through integrity and professionalism.
