The Ghana Police Service has arrested two individuals in connection with a viral TikTok video in which a woman is heard making explicit death threats against President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama.
In the disturbing video, the speaker, identified as Yayra Abiwu — also known as “Akosua Jollof” and believed to be an activist of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in North Tongu — vowed to kill the president before the end of 2025 and behead the First Lady.
She also mocked the recent Adansi Akrofuom helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight prominent figures, including Defence Minister Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Environment and Science Minister Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and other senior officials.
Police confirmed on Tuesday, August 12, that Abiwu and a second suspect, Prince Ofori, alias “Fante Comedy,” are in custody assisting with investigations.
Efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest other persons linked to the video.
The footage, recorded in Twi, contains multiple threats, including graphic references to placing the president’s body in sacks.
The speaker claimed allegiance to the NPP and accused Mahama of “acting stupidly,” vowing to “remove” him from power.
Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation and urged the public to remain calm while they work to bring all those involved to justice.
The police warned that the incident highlights the growing misuse of social media for incitement and threats against high-profile individuals.
They stressed their commitment to protecting all citizens, including the president and his family, and said the outcome of the investigation will be made public soon.
The August 6 helicopter crash victims named in the video include Dr. Omane Boamah, Alhaji Dr. Murtala Mohammed, Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Mr. Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flight Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
