The Office of the Special Prosecutor has filed 78 charges against former Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta and seven others over alleged corruption and procurement-related offences tied to revenue assurance contracts with Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML).
The High Court charge sheet, filed on November 18, 2025, accuses the group of conspiring to improperly influence a procurement process to secure an unfair advantage, contrary to Ghana’s Criminal Offences Act and Public Procurement Act.
Those charged include senior former officials of the Ghana Revenue Authority as well as executives of SML. The OSP says its months-long investigation uncovered serious financial irregularities involving top officials who played key roles in the awarding and supervision of the controversial contracts.
Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng earlier indicated that the probe implicated former ministers, former Commissioners-General of the GRA, and individuals linked directly to SML’s operations.
The OSP had earlier put Ofori-Atta on an INTERPOL Red Notice after he refused to return to Ghana following his medical excuses.
With the new charges now before the High Court, the OSP is preparing for what is expected to be one of the most significant corruption trials in recent years involving high-ranking former government officials.
