President Mahama delivered one of his strongest anti-corruption warnings yet, telling the Christian Council that his administration will not shield any appointee involved in wrongdoing.

Speaking during a courtesy visit from a 17-member delegation of the Christian Council of Ghana at the Jubilee House, Mahama stressed that Ghana often prosecutes corruption only after governments leave office, a pattern he intends to end.

“Our problem in the fight against corruption is that it is always post-regime corruption that we fight,” he said.

Mahama disclosed that ministers are constantly reminded of the seriousness of his stance. “I say the prosecutions that we’re taking against the current government will be tied to the first person who brings a scandal to this government,” he stated.

In a striking remark, he added, “We shall hang them on a cross and you follow our Lord Jesus Christ that you cannot resurrect again.”

He urged strong public institutions and evidence-based prosecutions, saying, “We have a constitution. We are not in the military and revolutionary days… however guilty you think a person is, if you don’t gather the evidence and you rush a case to court, the judge will throw it out.”

Mahama said the fight against corruption will be “impartial and fair,” grounded in institutional strengthening and proper investigations.
