Senior officers from all 11 agencies under the Ministry of the Interior have collectively donated GH¢1 million to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, widely known as the “Mahama Cares” initiative.

The donation was presented during a brief ceremony at the Jubilee House on Friday, June 20.

Present at the event were high-ranking officials from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Prisons Service, National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and other affiliated institutions.

The contribution is in support of President John Dramani Mahama’s flagship health intervention, which seeks to provide financial relief for Ghanaians in need of emergency and life-saving medical care.

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund, known as “Mahama Cares”, is a social intervention program launched in April 2025 by the Mahama administration.

It aims to support citizens who cannot afford urgent medical services, filling critical gaps left by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), particularly for surgeries, specialist treatment, and chronic conditions not covered under the scheme.

The fund is designed to respond swiftly to verified medical emergencies that might otherwise result in the loss of life due to financial constraints.

Officials at the event praised the initiative as a timely and lifesaving intervention and pledged continued support from the Interior Ministry’s agencies.
