Sammy Gyamfi, National Communications Officer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, has issued a public apology following widespread criticism over his recent interaction with controversial evangelist Nana Agradaa, also known as Mama Pat.
Over the weekend, Sammy Gyamfi was seen at a funeral where he gifted few dollars to Nana Agradaa—a figure who remains polarizing due to her history of legal controversies and public image. The gesture, which went viral on social media, triggered a storm of backlash from both within the NDC and the broader public, with many questioning the appropriateness of such a public display involving a known controversial figure.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Sammy Gyamfi acknowledged the public uproar and admitted that the act, though intended as a private gesture of kindness, was a misstep in judgment.
“To clarify, this was simply a kind gesture to a fellow human being, in line with my daily and life-long custom of lending a helping hand to people in need,” he stated. “I sincerely thought that I was doing this act of kindness in private, and never imagined that same could find its way into the public space. That is unfortunate and regrettable.”
He continued, “I understand the uproar that this gesture has generated, particularly from comrades who are sincerely hurt by same. To all such comrades, I am sincerely sorry for this unfortunate act of indiscretion. I respect and appreciate your views.”
Sammy Gyamfi also expressed gratitude to those who had reached out to offer counsel and support, adding that his dedication to public service remains unwavering.
“Let me state however, that my view of public office as a privilege to serve society, solve problems and help others, has not changed. I remain focused on the task entrusted to me by His Excellency, the President, for the development of our country.”
He concluded the statement by wishing the public a peaceful Sunday and extending a warm greeting to mothers in honor of Mother’s Day.
