Dr. Rashid Tanko-Computer, Deputy Director of Elections and IT of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has strongly dismissed claims by former National Signals Bureau (NSB) boss, Mr. Kwabena Adu-Boahene, that opposition political parties received GH¢7 million worth of election collation logistics and equipment in 2024.
The former NSB director, in a memo to the National Security Coordinator, had claimed that the funds currently at the center of a GH¢49 million controversy were actually used for covert national security operations. He alleged that a portion of the amount—over GH¢7 million—was spent on procuring logistical support for unnamed opposition parties and individuals.
Reacting to the allegations in an interview with Joy News, Dr. Tanko-Computer challenged Mr. Adu-Boahene to name the specific political parties and figures he claimed to have supported.
“Those people he’s referring to are his own allies. They were the ones who backed him during his recent public demonstration. He knows exactly who he’s talking about,” Dr. Tanko stated.
He also dismissed the notion that his own party could have benefited from such funding. “My opponent would give me resources to defeat him in an election? Does that make sense?” he quizzed.
Dr. Tanko further argued that some smaller opposition parties had consistently aligned themselves with the Electoral Commission (EC) and the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), rather than challenging them.
“When we were in IPAC, anytime the NDC opposed the EC and the NPP, those parties sided with them. So let’s be clear: we have nothing to do with any alleged GH¢7 million. We fought hard, used our own resources, and dealt a heavy blow to the NPP,” he emphasized.
He concluded by expressing full support for the Attorney General’s efforts to prosecute the former NSB boss, insisting that justice must prevail.
