Senior Lecturer at the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana, Prof. Alidu Mahama Seidu, has won the Tamale Central parliamentary primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He polled 840 votes to secure victory in the keenly contested race, which was held to elect a successor following the tragic death of the late MP, Alhaji Murtala Muhammed, who died in a helicopter crash along with seven others.
The primary, organised at the Alhaji Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, attracted 12 aspirants, including three women, all vying for the opportunity to represent the NDC in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Prof. Seidu’s decisive win was warmly acknowledged by his competitors, who congratulated him after Electoral Commission officials declared the results, with over 800 ballots cast in his favour.
