The Ghana Police Service has rejected claims circulating in sections of the media that some escapees from the Adabraka District Police custody are connected to the murder of a relative of a prominent public figure.
In statement dated Monday, April 27, 2026, the Ghana Police Service described the reports as false and misleading.
“The Accra Regional Police Command wishes to strongly refute and condemn reports circulating in sections of the media alleging that three (3) out of six (6) inmates who escaped from the Adabraka District Police custody on 26th April 2026, are linked to the murder of Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi’s father-in-law,” the statement said.
The Command clarified that the escapees had no connection to the said case and were not being held in relation to it.
“The Command clarifies that the individuals involved were never detained at the Adabraka Police Station in connection with that case and are not related to the said incident,” it added.
Police also confirmed that swift action has already led to the re-arrest of half of the escapees, while efforts continue to capture the remaining suspects.
“Meanwhile, three (3) out of six (6) the escapees have since been re-arrested through swift Police action, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining three suspects,” the statement noted.
The Command further disclosed that a full investigation has been launched into how the suspects escaped custody.
“The Command has initiated a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape. It has intensified a manhunt to arrest the remaining three escapees and ensure they are brought to justice,” it said.
The Police have assured the public of their commitment to maintaining law and order and called on citizens to assist with information.
