Parliament has approved GH¢9.8 billion in funding for the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) for the 2026 fiscal year, aimed at supporting education initiatives across all levels.
A substantial portion of the budget, GH¢4.2 billion, is designated for the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme, reinforcing the government’s commitment to free secondary education.
The tertiary education sector will receive GH¢1.5 billion, including GH¢300 million to fund continuing students under the GETFund scholarship scheme and to offer new sponsorship opportunities for learners studying both locally and abroad.
Additionally, GH¢230 million has been earmarked to complete ongoing basic school projects, while GH¢310 million will fund the construction of new school facilities, ensuring infrastructure expansion to meet growing educational demands.
