The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has cancelled with immediate effect, 341 Diplomatic and 360 Service passports as part of a nationwide recall of official travel documents. This comes on the back of earlier public directives on January 15 and March 10 this year, urging former officials and other group of people to return their official passports.
However, in a statement released by the Ministry and dated May 06, said the affected passports have now been placed on a stop-list and ceases to be valid for international travel. The affected individuals include:
Former Ministers and their spouses
Former Members of Parliament
Former Council of State members and spouses
Retired Justices of the Superior and Lower Courts
Former Regional Ministers, MMDCEs, and board members
Officials of the National Cathedral Project
Former non-career ambassadors and their dependents
Religious and traditional leaders,
All other persons holding official passports not currently serving in any official capacity for the State, or otherwise holding the falls under the requirements of sections 6 and 7 of the Passports and Travel Certificates Act,1967(NLCD,155).
The ministry further indicated that all affected passports must be confiscated if found in use, warning of strict enforcement at all points of entry and exit.
This measure is aimed at ensuring compliance with the Passports and Travel Certificates Act, 1967 (NLCD 155), particularly sections 6 and 7, which regulate the issuance and use of official passports.
