The Board Chairman of the National Youth Authority and Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth Wing Working Committee, Okai Mintah, has congratulated the newly elected executives of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), urging them to intensify efforts in advancing the ideals of the party on campus.
Speaking at a meeting with the executives on Wednesday, February 4, Mr. Mintah underscored the critical role the TEIN, established in the mid-1990s, has played in the growth and electoral successes of the NDC, describing the student wing as a vital pillar of the party’s grassroots mobilisation.
He encouraged the executives to actively engage the student population and project what he described as the achievements of the John Dramani Mahama-led NDC government within its first year in office.
“President John Mahama and the NDC government have performed creditably within one year in office. You can all attest to the improved state of the economy, stable power supply, and relative stability of the exchange rate,” Mr. Mintah stated.
Acknowledging the challenges confronting students across the country, he assured the TEIN leadership that President Mahama is a listening leader who remains committed to incorporating student welfare into his governance agenda.
Mr. Mintah also advised the students to strike a healthy balance between academics and politics, noting that while campus political activism can be demanding, discipline and determination are key to success.
“As a former student and TEIN member, I know how daunting it can be to combine campus politics with academic work. However, with focus and commitment, it is achievable. The NDC remains a party of opportunity for all, regardless of one’s background,” he added.
The KNUST-TEIN executives, in response, expressed gratitude to Mr. Mintah for the encouragement and pledged to work diligently to promote the party’s vision on campus and support the government in delivering on its mandate.
The engagement forms part of the NDC’s broader efforts to strengthen its youth base and consolidate support within tertiary institutions across the country.
