Former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, is likely to part ways with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following steps taken by the party to activate disciplinary measures against him over recent public comments.
The party, in a statement signed by its General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, said it has triggered provisions in its constitution to address remarks made by the former minister during a television interview.
Prof. Frimpong Boateng, speaking on Channel One TV on Monday, January 12, described the current state of the NPP as “fake” and questioned the integrity of the party’s 2023 presidential primary, alleging it was manipulated in favour of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The NPP has rejected the assertions, insisting the presidential primary was conducted in a transparent and credible manner and reflected the will of party delegates.
The party said the comments attributed to Prof. Frimpong Boateng undermine its unity and core values.
As a result, the leadership says it has commenced the appropriate internal processes which could lead to his expulsion, in accordance with laid-down procedures.
The former minister, who has been a long-standing member of the party, used the interview to express dissatisfaction with the party’s current direction, arguing that it no longer represents the ideals he once stood for.
The NPP maintains that it will deal with the matter strictly within the framework of its constitution and party rules.
