Former Assin Central MP and NPP presidential aspirant Kennedy Agyapong has vowed to unify the party if he wins the ongoing NPP flagbearer primaries, stressing the importance of cohesion ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Speaking at a polling centre in Assin Central on Saturday, January 31, Agyapong said, “If I’m the winner, I will be able to bring the party together.” He added that internal contests can be intense, but divisions should not follow.
“Sometimes it gets tough, and some words are used which are not palatable, but we have to take it as it is, but that doesn’t mean we should go out of the party,” he said.
Agyapong expressed confidence in a fair voting process, noting measures had been taken to prevent a repeat of the controversies that marked the 2023 primaries. “We have all done our job well to prevent rigging and everything, so I expect a fair contest,” he stated.
He appealed to delegates to support him at the polls, urging them to “vote number one.”
Agyapong is competing for the NPP flagbearer role alongside former Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Ministers Dr. Bryan Acheampong and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong.
