The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, who died on October 23, 2025, at the Ridge Hospital in Accra.

In a statement signed by Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party’s General Secretary, the NPP described the late former First Lady as “an epitome of the strength and resilience of Ghanaian women,” emphasizing her lasting impact on national laws and social programs.

The party highlighted her leadership in founding the 31st December Women’s Movement, which championed education, economic empowerment, and legal protections for women, and her instrumental role in the enactment of the Intestate Succession Law (PNDCL 111).

“Her unparalleled advocacy greatly influenced national policies and laws relating to the rights of women and children. Indeed, she played a vital role in bringing into force the famous
Intestate Succession Law (PNDCL 111), which has guaranteed the inheritance rights of women and children.”

The NPP extended heartfelt condolences to the Rawlings family, praying for comfort and strength during this period of national mourning

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the late President Jerry John Rawlings, was a key figure in Ghana’s political and social landscape.

She was known for her activism, leadership, and dedication to social justice. She married Jerry Rawlings in 1977 and had four children.
