The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially settled on Baba Ali Yussif as its parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso East by-election slated for Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
In a statement signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party said the decision was taken after the National Executive Committee held consultations with key stakeholders in a bid to present a single candidate with the best chance of winning the seat.
As part of the process, the NEC set up a Candidate Search Committee chaired by former General Secretary John Boadu.
The party said the committee, after engaging stakeholders in the constituency and the Greater Accra Region, unanimously recommended Baba Ali Yussif, who currently serves as the NPP’s Ayawaso East Constituency Secretary.
The NPP said an expanded Constituency Executive Committee meeting and a Delegates Conference held on Sunday, February 8, 2026, endorsed the recommendation, leading to his acclamation as candidate.
The party described Baba Ali Yussif as “a seasoned educator” and “a grassroots mobiliser,” urging supporters to rally behind him ahead of the contest.
Meanwhile, political parties are expected to meet the Electoral Commission for an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, as preparations intensify for the by-election.
