Ghanaian socialite and alleged cybercriminal Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has filed a GH₵10 million lawsuit at the Human Rights Division of the High Court in Accra, claiming unlawful detention, torture, and human rights violations following his arrest on December 11, 2025.
The suit names the Minister of Interior, the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), the Attorney-General, and the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as respondents.
Abu Trica alleges that over 15 armed officers stormed his Airport Residential Area apartment, handcuffed him, denied him food and water, and subjected him to coercive interrogations by three foreign agents identified as FBI operatives.
He claims these agents forced him to sign documents he could not read and threatened to link him to alleged fraudulent transactions totaling $8 million if he did not disclose phone passwords.
Abu Trica also alleges that NACOC and EOCO conducted unauthorized searches of his Swedru residence, seizing luxury vehicles—including a Lamborghini, Mercedes, and Cybertruck—multiple electronics, jewellery, and personal effects, many of which he says belonged to friends, without providing an inventory or receipt.
He further accused EOCO of labeling him a “notorious cyber-criminal” before any judicial determination.
Through the lawsuit, he is seeking exclusion of evidence obtained during these interrogations and searches, a restraining order preventing extradition, and an injunction barring the FBI from conducting investigations or interrogations within Ghana.
Abu Trica has been in custody since his arrest in a joint operation between Ghanaian security agencies and the FBI and faces U.S. charges, including conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering, with potential prison terms of up to 20 years.
The High Court is expected to hear the case in February 2026, which could set a precedent on foreign law enforcement operations and citizen protections in Ghana.
