The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has formally petitioned President John Mahama and the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, accusing the government of weaponising state institutions to intimidate its members.
The petition was delivered on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, during the party’s “Yɛn Suro Ahunahuna” demonstration in Accra, which drew thousands of supporters.
Presenting the petition, NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B) said the administration was practising selective justice by shielding government-aligned individuals accused of wrongdoing while opposition figures faced harassment, arrests, and prolonged detentions.
He cited recent cases involving Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC), Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), and other NPP activists, insisting the law was being applied unevenly.
The NPP warned that if the trend continued, the integrity of Ghana’s democratic institutions and security services would be undermined.
