Government has clarified that members of President John Dramani Mahama’s Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy (PAGE) will serve without pay, dismissing speculation about remuneration for the high-level advisory body.
Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said the individuals appointed to PAGE are not government employees and are offering their services voluntarily.
“As we speak, I am not certain about any remuneration. They are not permanent employees,” he said in an interview on Joy FM on Friday, January 16.
“Many of these people are already engaged in other activities. Some people are lecturing at universities and are already on the public payroll, so I am not aware of any additional remuneration for them.”
Mr Kwakye Ofosu explained that the advisory group, made up of seasoned economists, academics and private sector leaders, will determine its own meeting schedules and working arrangements, with a clear focus on improving economic outcomes for citizens.
“What is certain is that they will keep a close eye on the economy and ensure that the policies being implemented benefit the generality of our people,” he stated.
He stressed that service on the committee is driven by national interest, not personal gain.
PAGE was established to provide independent, strategic advice to the President on macroeconomic management, fiscal consolidation, debt sustainability, and long-term growth, including export-led development and private sector expansion.
The group includes Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Kwame Pianim, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, Sir Samuel Esson Jonah, Togbe Afede XIV, and several other distinguished professionals from academia, finance and industry.
