NDC Unveils Campaign Team Soon: Alabi, Fifi Kwetey and Segbefia to lead.

After series of meetings, lobbying and consultations, the Political Committee of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has concluded on the campaign team structure and composition ahead of 2024 elections. 

A close source within NDC indicates that the Political Committee of NDC in a meeting last week Thursday concluded on the campaign structure and will present the proposed structure to Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of NDC for approval.

The campaign structure would be sub divided into 3 parts. Presidential campaign team, Party Campaign Team and Vice-Presidential campaign Team.

Information available to Theoverseer Newspaper has it that the Presidential campaign team will have Professor Joshua Alabi, a national vice chairman of NDC as head. When approved by FEC, Joshua Alarbi will manage NDC presidential campaign for the second time after managing 2020 election that NDC lost to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Former Minister of Health and current Director for International Relation for NDC, Alex Segbefia will take charge of Vice-presidential campaign.
Prof. Joshua Alarbi and Alex Segbefia will report to the Party’s General Secretary, Fifi Kwettey who has constitutional mandate to be the overall campaign coordinator and Chairman of Party campaign.

Unlike the 2020 campaign where the then Party’s general secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia declined to be the campaign coordinator, Fifi Kwettey will take charge and Prof. Alabi and Segbefia would be reporting to him.

There would also be advisory campaign team that will include many members of Political Committee and former National Executives especially Former Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.

The overall campaign membership would be drawn from the National Executive committee, Minority leadership and some former members of parliament.
Campaign spokesperson is expected to generate attention as there was no name mentioned during the Political Committee meeting.
Prior to the formation of 2020 campaign team, current National Communication Officer, Samuel Gyamfi lobbied to be the campaign spokesperson, but it was later given to former deputy minister for information, Lawyer James Agyenim Boateng.

Similar campaign structure is expected to be replicated across the regions with the exception of Ashanti Region that will have more fragmented approach through zonal structures.
