The NDC Majority Caucus in Ghana’s Parliament has called for the immediate cancellation of the party’s just-ended parliamentary primary in the Ayawaso East Constituency, following allegations of vote buying.
In a statement dated February 8, 2026, and signed by the Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Mahama Ayariga, the caucus said it had taken note of “widely circulated allegations” surrounding the internal contest in the Greater Accra constituency.
The caucus condemned the reported conduct, describing it as inconsistent with the party’s broader agenda of resetting Ghana’s politics.
After what it said were “extensive deliberations,” the group announced it would formally petition the party’s Functional Executive Committee to annul the primary.
Beyond the cancellation, the caucus is also demanding sanctions against anyone found culpable.
It is calling for “any candidate… established to have engaged in this unethical conduct” to be barred from taking part in the rerun primary after the annulment.
The Majority Caucus stressed that the move is part of efforts to “restore integrity to our politics.”
