The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has marked five years since the passing of its founder, Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings, celebrating his enduring influence on Ghana’s political and social landscape.
In a statement from Kakra Essamuah, the party’s Director of Communications, Rawlings was remembered as a visionary leader whose legacy continues to shape the nation.
“Even as the party, the country, and admirers around the world honor his contributions, his imprint on Ghana’s history remains indelible,” the statement said.
The NDC also paid tribute to the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, mourning her recent death and highlighting that her decades of service to the nation deserve a proper farewell.
Reflecting on the half-decade since Rawlings’ passing, the party described the period as “five long years of remembrance and reflection,” underscoring the lasting void his absence has left.
“Comrade President, Chairman Rawlings, rest peacefully in the Lord’s embrace,” the statement concluded.
Rawlings is remembered not only as Ghana’s military and democratic leader but also as a central figure in the establishment of the Fourth Republic, whose contributions continue to influence the country’s political journey.
Meanwhile, United Nigeria Airlines has named one of its aircraft “J.J. Rawlings” in honour of the late former President.
