The Ministry for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations is set to collaborate with Cisco to expand the government’s One Million Coders Programme, offering Ghanaian learners opportunities for global certification.
Minister Samuel Nartey George welcomed Cisco’s proposal during a meeting with the company, led by Business Development Manager for Nigeria, South Africa, and Ghana, Imoh Akpan.
He described the partnership as a key component of the government’s plan to develop a digitally skilled workforce capable of supporting Ghana’s shift toward an innovation-driven economy.
The One Million Coders Programme seeks to train professionals in emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Data Forensics, and Cloud Computing, leveraging collaborations with major tech firms including Google, Huawei, Microsoft, and AWS.
Minister George, together with the deputy Minister Adams Mohammed Sukparu, also revealed plans to establish digital hubs across all 276 constituencies, each outfitted with roughly 50 computers, to provide young people in rural areas with access to devices and reliable internet for learning.
Mr. George expressed optimism about Cisco’s involvement and requested the company submit a formal proposal to solidify the partnership.
The Minister underscored that the government’s broader digital transformation agenda aims to make all public institutions AI-enabled, ensuring equitable access to digital opportunities across the country.
