Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, has called on the General Legal Council (GLC) and the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) to investigate the Attorney General’s actions in the ongoing ambulance trial involving Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and two others.
Appearing on Metro TV’s “Good Morning Ghana” with host Ann Ampofo, Bampoe Addo accused the Attorney General and Minister for Justice of serious misconduct. She urged the President to either demand his resignation or dismiss him from office.
“Attorney General’s conduct raises serious issues, including the perversion of justice, unethical, and unlawful behavior. This misconduct has severe implications for justice delivery, the fight against corruption, and the integrity of the judiciary in Ghana,” Bampoe Addo stated.
Bampoe Addo also expressed shock at the silence of the GLC and GBA, which are tasked with supervising legal professionals in Ghana. She emphasized that these bodies must fulfill their statutory and legal obligations by investigating the Attorney General’s conduct.
“This morning, I am addressing the General Legal Council’s silence on this issue, despite their role and legal obligation according to the statute and law that established them,” she said.
The former minister called attention to an alleged tape where the Attorney General is heard coaching the accused on what to say, which she claims breaches the rules of justice delivery in Ghana. She urged the GBA to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
Bampoe Addo’s call underscores the need for accountability and integrity within Ghana’s legal system, emphasizing that such issues cannot be overlooked if the country is to uphold the rule of law and combat corruption effectively.bk
