The Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢150,000 by the Circuit Court in Accra over his alleged involvement in the Hwidiem galamsey clash in the Ahafo Region.
He faces provisional charges of assault on a public officer, causing unlawful damage, and rioting with weapons after an anti-illegal mining operation by the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) turned violent on November 1, 2025.
As part of his bail conditions, the court barred him from leaving the Greater Accra Region without notifying investigators and directed him to report to them every two weeks.
The MP, who is said to have cooperated fully with investigators, is to reappear in court on December 1, 2025.
Defense lawyers argued successfully for bail, citing his voluntary appearance, family responsibilities, and permanent residence in Accra, while prosecutors opposed it, expressing fears of interference with witnesses.
Meanwhile, Mr. Addo has denied leading or instigating any attack, insisting he was at the scene to restore calm. Other suspects in the case are currently at large.
