The Minority in Parliament is set to petition the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) over what it describes as an unjustifiable delay in declaring the results of the Ablekuma North parliamentary election.
In a video sighted by TheOverseer, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin was seen leading the delegation to the Police Headquarters to officially file the complaint.
The Ablekuma North seat has remained vacant since the beginning of the 9th Parliament in January 2025, following a disputed outcome in the December 2024 general elections.
Both the NDC’s Ewurabena Aubynn and the NPP’s Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie have claimed victory.
The Electoral Commission (EC) suspended the collation of results on January 5, 2025, citing disruptions and the appearance of unauthenticated figures at the collation centre. No official declaration has since been made, resulting in a political deadlock.
On May 30, the EC held high-level meetings with the Ghana Police Service in a bid to resolve the stalemate. However, no conclusive roadmap has been announced, fueling frustrations among constituents.
With no representation in Parliament for months, residents of Ablekuma North say they feel neglected, and many worry the delay could undermine public confidence in Ghana’s electoral system.
