The Accra Regional Police Command has confirmed that the two suspects who were arrested over alleged assault of a 12-year-old girl at La have been formally charged and remanded into police custody.
In a dated Monday, January 5, 2026, the police said the accused persons were arraigned before court the same day and charged with conspiracy to commit assault, assault, and cruelty to a child, under the Criminal Offences Act and the Children’s Act.
According to the police, the suspects pleaded not guilty to all charges and have been remanded into police custody, with the case adjourned to January 19, 2026 for them to reappear.
Meanwhile, efforts are underway to arrest a third suspect, identified as Priscilla Novishie Wornyo, aged 49, who is the mother of the two accused persons. Police say she is currently on the run and is being sought to assist with investigations.
“The Accra Regional Police Command reiterates its commitment to protecting children and ensuring that persons who abuse minors are brought to justice,” the statement assured.
The police added that investigations are ongoing as they work to bring all persons connected to the alleged abuse before the law.
