Panic erupted at Ritz Junction, Madina, on Saturday, August 3, when an unidentified gunman opened fire during a major fire outbreak, injuring seven people.

According to a statement by the Ghana Police Service, the chaos unfolded as fire personnel battled to control flames that had engulfed a washing bay, destroying over 50 wooden structures and metal containers.

Police say the victims are receiving treatment at various hospitals while investigations are underway to arrest the shooter.

“Preliminary information indicates that during the outbreak, there was a shooting incident that resulted in injury to seven people amidst the chaos.nFire personnel successfully brought the fire under control, and police officers ensured security for lives and properties in the area.”

“The seven victims who have been identified are currently receiving medical treatment at the various hospitals. An investigation has been launched into the incident, and efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators.”

Although officers were on the scene, witnesses claim the gunman was not restrained. The motive for the shooting remains unknown.

The Accra Regional Police Command says visibility has been increased in the area, urging residents to remain calm and report any suspicious activity.

“Meanwhile, Police visibility has been enhanced in the affected area to maintain peace and prevent further disturbances. Members of the public are encouraged to volunteer credible information to aid with ongoing investigations.”

Authorities have cautioned against exploiting emergencies to commit crimes and promised to bring all offenders to justice.
