Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has pledged strict oversight of road projects to be financed under the newly approved US$500 million World Bank credit facility, warning that contractors who fail to meet quality standards or honour their contractual obligations will face sanctions.

Speaking in Parliament, Mr. Agbodza said the government is committed to ensuring that all projects funded under the facility are executed to the highest standards and deliver value for money.

The World Bank financing will support the rehabilitation of feeder roads and improve farm-to-market road networks in selected districts across the country.

The initiative is expected to enhance connectivity between farming communities and markets, reduce transportation challenges and support increased agricultural productivity.

According to the Minister, effective supervision will be a key component of the programme to ensure that contractors adhere to project specifications and complete works within the agreed timelines.

He stressed that the government will not tolerate poor workmanship or delays that undermine the quality and durability of road infrastructure.

Mr. Agbodza said the investment forms part of broader efforts to improve the country’s road network, facilitate the movement of goods and services, and contribute to economic growth, particularly in rural and agricultural communities.

He assured Parliament that mechanisms would be put in place to monitor project implementation and ensure that public funds are used efficiently and transparently.
