The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has reported a major breakthrough in its fight against human trafficking and economic crime with the arrest of 320 individuals in Kumasi.
The operation was carried out by EOCO’s Anti-Human Trafficking Unit across two locations as part of a large-scale crackdown targeting fraudulent schemes operating under the guise of QNET.
In a statement dated Thursday, November 6, EOCO said, “Initial assessments indicate that 25 of the 320 individuals are potential suspects, while the remaining 295 are deemed to be victims of human trafficking and employment scams perpetrated under the guise of QNET.”
The agency noted that the arrests came after months of meticulous investigations and are the largest anti-human trafficking operation in Ghana to date, surpassing a recent raid in Kasoa that led to the detention of 26 people.
EOCO added, “The suspects and victims are currently undergoing screening, and the 25 suspects will be subject to further investigations.”
The office also highlighted its collaboration with QNET to curb the misuse of the company’s brand in trafficking and fraud. “We commend the collaborative efforts of QNET in this regard and look forward to continued cooperation to bring perpetrators to justice,” the statement said.
EOCO concluded by urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, affirming its commitment to combating organised and economic crime.
“EOCO assures the public of its continued commitment to fighting economic and organised crime, and we urge citizens to report any suspicious activities to our offices,” the statement added.
