The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting at Odupongkpehe Polling Centre in Kasoa during the 2024 general elections.
Mujahid Suraj, also known as Mims, allegedly fired a pump-action gun targeting Tamimu Tanko, a constituency executive of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). While the intended target was missed, a voter present at the center was injured.
Eyewitnesses at the scene noted conflicting motives for the attack, with some linking it to political tensions and others suggesting an existing personal feud between Suraj and Tanko.
Suraj went into hiding after the incident but was apprehended on the night of Saturday, January 17, at his residence in the Odupongkpehe Zongo area of Kasoa following intelligence-led operations by the Kasoa Divisional Command.
Police sources confirm that the suspect is under investigation and will face prosecution in due course.
