The Ministry of the Interior has announced that Friday, March 20, 2026, and Monday, March 23, 2026, will be observed as public holidays across the country.
In a statement signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the ministry said the holidays are to mark Eid-Ul-Fitr, which falls on Friday, March 20, and Shaqq Day, observed on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
According to him, because Shaqq Day falls on a Saturday this year, the government has declared Monday, March 23, 2026, as an additional public holiday to enable the public to properly observe the occasion.
He explained that the declaration was made by John Dramani Mahama through an Executive Instrument in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, as amended.
The ministry urged the general public to take note and observe the holidays accordingly throughout the country.
