A group of Members of Parliament from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have endorsed the former Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.
The MPs, representing constituencies across the country, paid a visit to Dr. Bawumia on Thursday afternoon at his private office, where they held a closed-door meeting to pledge their support and encourage him to officially declare his candidacy.
The show of solidarity comes in the wake of the NPP’s recent announcement that its presidential primaries will be held on January 31, 2026.
The timeline, approved by the party’s National Executive Committee and National Council, is intended to provide adequate time for internal campaigning and unity-building ahead of the 2028 polls.
Dr. Bawumia, who was the party’s flagbearer in the 2024 elections, is yet to formally announce his intentions but remains a frontrunner in the race.
The delegation included high-profile party figures and ministers such as Mohammed Amin Adam, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Sammi Awuku, Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, Habib Iddrisu and Nana Adjei Baffour Awuah, amongst others.
Meanwhile, four prominent NPP figures have currently come out to declare intent for the flagbearer slot.
They are Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.
