The Ministry of Health has rescheduled the Nursing and Midwifery Licensing Examinations to September 4, 2025, with a major shift back to a decentralised system.
The announcement follows a high-level meeting between Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), and the Conference of Heads of Health Training Institutions (COHHETI).
According to a statement by the Ministry, candidates will now sit for the exams in their own training institutions rather than traveling to centralised venues.
Minister Akandoh explained that the decision is intended to protect students from the risks of long-distance travel, while also ensuring fair, well-supervised examinations.
“It is not proper for students to travel from one region to another to sit for examinations,” he said, stressing the government’s priority on the safety and welfare of trainees.
The Health Ministry further assured that it will provide adequate logistics and support for the smooth rollout of the directive. Meanwhile, the NMC is expected to release a revised timetable and detailed examination guidelines in the coming days.
The Ministry also expressed appreciation to candidates, institutions, and stakeholders for their patience and cooperation in the transition.
