A new poll by Global InfoAnalytics shows a tight contest in the Kpandai parliamentary rerun, with New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate Matthew Nyindam slightly ahead of National Democratic Congress (NDC) contender Daniel Nsala Wakpal. Nyindam commands 50% support, while Wakpal has 46%, with a 3.9% margin of error.
The survey, conducted from December 11–13 among 1,035 voters, also shows minor shifts from supporters of Donkor Eric Nipani benefiting Nyindam, while overall voter sentiment favors the country’s direction, with 66% saying Ghana is headed the right way.
Top issues influencing voters include jobs (34%), the economy (18%), and roads (15%).
The rereun comes amid heightened political tension. Minority lawmakers recently protested the re-run, demanding the withdrawal of the Clerk’s letter declaring the Kpandai seat vacant, citing procedural irregularities. Their objections follow a ruling by the Tamale High Court, which allowed the re-run to proceed but underscored the need for strict adherence to electoral law.
On leadership approval, the poll shows 64% of voters approve of President John Mahama’s performance, while 27% disapprove. Among floating voters, Nyindam and Wakpal are nearly tied, reflecting a highly competitive race heading into the December by-election.
