Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has emerged as a strong contender for the 2028 presidential race, with new polling data suggesting he could secure a victory against Julius Debrah if the NDC selects him as its flagbearer.
The survey, conducted by Global InfoAnalytics between September 15 and 25, 2025, with a sample of more than 5,000 respondents, indicates that while Bawumia would outperform Debrah in a straight contest, his chances dim significantly against other leading NDC figures.
The poll shows Haruna Iddrisu and Cassiel Ato Forson both ahead of the former Vice President in potential matchups.
Within the NPP, Bawumia continues to command solid grassroots backing, with 57% of delegates preferring him as the next flagbearer. His closest challenger, Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, polled 29%, while other aspirants, including former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, trailed far behind with less than 5% each.
Regionally, Bawumia maintains wide leads over Agyapong in key strongholds. He polled 63% in the Ashanti Region, 61% in the Eastern Region, 55% in Greater Accra, 52% in the Central Region, and a commanding 68% in the Northern Region.
Global InfoAnalytics notes a margin of error of ±2.5% in the survey, which offers the clearest early picture yet of the 2028 race and the challenges facing the NPP as it attempts to rebuild its political fortunes.
