President John Dramani Mahama has called on world leaders to take decisive and collective action to combat misinformation and disinformation, describing it as a global war that demands shared responsibility and sustained commitment.
Mahama’s remarks come amid growing concerns about the impact of fake news and disinformation on democracy, peace, and public trust globally.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the High-Level International Conference on Information Integrity and Independent Media in Paris, France, on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, President Mahama urged nations to back words with concrete measures to safeguard truth and strengthen democracy.

“The time has come for all of us to translate our shared ideals into tangible action — to demonstrate genuine commitment to supporting public interest media and safeguarding the integrity of information,” he said.
“Together, we must win — and we will win — the global war against misinformation and disinformation.”
The conference, hosted by France and jointly organized by the International Fund for Public Interest Media (IFPIM) and the Forum on Information and Democracy (FID), brought together heads of state, journalists, and civil society leaders to deliberate on global cooperation to protect independent media and counter false information.

President Mahama announced that Ghana has formally joined the Partnership for Information and Democracy, a global alliance committed to promoting transparency, accountability, and open governance.
“I am pleased to announce that Ghana has formally decided to assume full membership in the Partnership for Information and Democracy,” he stated.

“This decision has been officially communicated through the appropriate diplomatic channels, affirming Ghana’s unwavering commitment to the principles of transparency, accountability, and open governance,” he added.
The President said Ghana’s participation reaffirms its leadership in defending press freedom and advancing democratic values across Africa and beyond.
“Our landmark decision sends a clear message to the international community — that Ghana remains steadfast in advancing the frontiers of freedom, upholding the rule of law, and serving as a model nation in promoting democracy and good governance,” he noted.
